Heating Oil Delivery FAQs
Do I need to be home for a heating oil delivery?
No. As long as our driver can safely reach your fill pipe, you don’t need to be home. Most deliveries happen without the homeowner present. If your fill pipe is behind a locked gate or fence, let us know in advance so we can arrange access.
How long does a heating oil delivery take?
Usually under 30 minutes. The driver positions the truck near your fill pipe, connects the hose, meters the fuel into your tank, and leaves a delivery record. For most Westchester homes it’s a short, routine visit — often finished before you’d notice the truck arrived.
How should I prepare for a delivery?
Give the driver a clear, safe path to your fill pipe:
- Keep the driveway clear to roughly 9–10 feet wide so the truck can maneuver
- Clear snow, ice, leaves, or debris away from the fill pipe
- Unlock any gate the driver needs to pass through
- Keep pets indoors during the delivery window
- Make sure your house number is visible from the street
When should I order heating oil?
Order when your tank reaches about one-quarter full. That gives enough margin for scheduling, weather, and delivery routing without risking a run-out. Waiting until the gauge is near empty leaves little room if a storm or a busy stretch delays deliveries.
What happens if I run out of heating oil completely?
Your heating system will shut down, and it usually needs more than just fuel to restart. When a tank runs dry, air enters the fuel line and sediment from the bottom of the tank can reach the filter and nozzle. After a delivery, the system typically needs to be bled and restarted — sometimes a service call rather than a refill alone.
What is the minimum heating oil delivery?
Our minimum delivery varies from 150 gallons to 350 gallons based on your location. Minimums exist because the cost of sending a truck out is largely the same whether it delivers 50 gallons or 250, and a minimum keeps the per-gallon price fair for everyone.
How soon can you deliver after I place an order?
Standard deliveries are scheduled when you place your order — call the office for current lead times. During peak winter weeks or severe weather, timing can extend as routes and demand shift. If you’re low on fuel, contact us directly and we’ll tell you honestly where you fall in the schedule.
