How does automatic delivery know when to deliver?
We track how cold it’s been and how much fuel your home historically uses, then schedule a delivery before your tank gets low. The calculation uses “heating degree days” – a measure of how far the daily average temperature falls below 65°F. A day averaging 45°F generates 20 degree days; a milder day generates fewer.
We combine that weather data with your home’s own consumption history and tank size to project when you’ll need fuel, and schedule a delivery before your tank reaches roughly a quarter full. You don’t check the gauge, and you don’t call.
Can I still run out of oil on automatic delivery?
It’s rare, but not impossible. Automatic delivery is a prediction based on weather and your usage history, so an unusual situation – a sudden extreme cold snap, a change in household occupancy, a heating system running inefficiently, or a delivery the driver couldn’t complete because the fill pipe was blocked -can put actual consumption ahead of the forecast.
How quickly does automatic delivery become accurate?
It typically takes about three deliveries to establish an accurate consumption rate for your home. Every house burns fuel differently depending on insulation, thermostat habits, system efficiency, and whether your boiler also heats your hot water.
